Wear a Uniform or Protective Clothing at Work?
If you wear a uniform or protective clothing as part of your job and your employer doesn’t provide washing facilities – you could be entitled to a rebate for your costs.
How Much Can I Claim?
The amount you’re able to claim tax relief on depends on your industry. The standard flat-rate expense allowance for uniform maintenance is £60 (2021/22). Most people can claim back for the past four years, to April 2018.
Am I Eligible?
Your eligibility for a Uniform Expense Rebate is subject to you wearing a recognisable uniform that shows you have a certain job, such as a branded T-Shirt. Additionally, you must be required to wear the item(s) while working.
How Does It Work?
To benefit from a Uniform Tax Rebate, an application must be made to HM Revenue & Customs – following which your claim will be reviewed by a HMRC officer to ascertain your eligibility and process a rebate.
